Sometimes there are clients who are quite distinctive and different when compared to regular ones.
And recently I had the opportunity to work with a client that complained she had neck pain for the past 5 days, and the pain was getting worse. It was very hard for her to turn her neck, and she had side flexion. My client had a car accident history, so these pains were most likely related to that. |
What I found
My client had tension in the upper front of her right neck(Suprahyoid and upper infrahyoid muscle ). She felt hypersensitivity upon touch.
Since those muscles are usually involved in swallowing, I asked her whether she has chewing problems.
And there was a problem there because she doesn’t have 3 back teeth, which means she might be swallowing semisolid foods. Her entire back muscle area around the right kidney was tensioned, and she mentioned she encounters saliva gland problems sometimes.

What can the client do?
There are two options that she can consider.
- Go to the dentist
but in her case, that’s a no-go because she doesn’t have the financial power to deal with such a challenge. - Self-massage saliva glands naturally.
Then she has to try and chew as much as possible to make everything work adequately.
The treatment I chose for her
I chose to make loose the front of the neck and related muscles for neck pain.
There was also a follow-up treatment after a week, which brought in no tension the back muscle area around the right kidney area and less neck pain. There was a bit of tension for the upper front of the right neck.

A reason why I go with the idea of “seeing the whole, not just a part”
I learned that on my own because when I went to school in Japan, the dentist checked me up and he told me I still have a baby tooth left on the left back. I got an x-ray to ensure this was a problem, and then I opted for an orthodontics service to help me handle the situation.
The adult tooth was out, and the shoulder muscle ache since I was 10 years old was gone. It was unclear why I have this type of pain but my parents had to massage the area to ensure I receive the necessary relief and help.
Now that I am a massage therapist I use this kind of idea to guide me all the time.
I know that sometimes problems can appear randomly, and it all comes down to what I said above.
You need to see the whole, not just a part of it sometimes.
Sure, it’s easy to blame muscle pain on working out too much, for example. But sometimes muscle pain is caused by other unrelated stuff.
That’s why you need to pay a lot of attention and make sure there are no problems. You will be very impressed with the results in the end, that’s for sure!
And if you have any pains and want to handle them correctly, come to me, and I will do my best to help you as fast as possible!
